Evaluating Telecom Expense Management Solutions

Looking for a Telecom Expense Management solution? Today, I offer you some road-tested advice.

Know What You Need

Sounds simple enough, but I highly recommend using your project-planning phase to clearly outline your goals and map them to measures that will define the program.  For example, let’s say your objective is to see cost savings by eliminating billing errors, streamlining labor intensive invoice processing, and cutting late payment penalty fees. Ok, great! Follow that up by measuring baseline values. Know the realities of today and then set threshold values to measure results in each area.

Delivery Considerations

Do you like the hands-off benefits of a hosted solution? This appeals to so many organizations that are tight on resources. It might make great sense to allow your team to focus on other areas or even to share the management of the program with your TEM vendor. It just depends on how much involvement you want and in what areas.

Or, your organization may believe in buying licensed software. You may have stringent security policies or simply wish to manage the entire program yourself.

Regardless of which option suits you, seriously analyze the pros and cons of delivery methods. Consider how they would affect your internal resources and whether they would require buying additional technology. Speed your entire process by eliminating vendors who can’t deliver on your desired method!

I leave you with this: make sure your evaluation team creates a comprehensive buyers checklist to ensure that you get every required capability and nothing slips through the cracks.
