The Business Case for Mobility Management

You are very wise in your desire to get a grip on mobility spending. Gartner predicts that 80% of enterprises will overspend on wireless services through 2014. The sooner you get mobility spending under control, the more you save and the greater your advantage.

How do you prove the value of Mobility Management to those not yet on board? Start by converting the executive team into believers. Explain that wireless expense management will enable you to do the following, which leads to multi-fold financial and operational benefits.

  • Ability to Automatically Enforce Mobile Policy: Without a solution in place, it’s nearly impossible to enforce rules around mobility, much less track provisioning for devices and services. A solution allows you to enforce standard packages as well as provide a web portal for users to request, change, or cancel devices and service plans.
  • Centrally Managed Wireless Expenses: Here’s one for the CFO. S/he knows how much pain will be alleviated by automating the bill payment process and the ongoing validation of billing with inventory. Plus, track personal versus business calls for chargeback and tax compliance requirements, and reduce time spent in administration of wireless expenses.
  • Optimized Wireless Plans that Save Money: To optimize costs, you need a solution that continually monitors wireless plans and consumption patterns. Two other capabilities that practically sell themselves: 1) the ability to automatically flag opportunities for more cost-effective plans and 2) built-in spending reports to compare carriers and negotiate the best rates.
  • Reduced Wireless Helpdesk Burden: You may want to state the case for outsourcing wireless support to our specialized mobile reps. Especially in these under-staffed times, it may make sense to reassign your staff to higher yield tasks.
  • Improved Expense Visibility: It should be easy to explain why wasting time and money managing wireless expenses is not exactly savvy. With centralized management and reporting, you get complete visibility into users, devices, calls, usage, vendors, unnecessary expenses, and more. Now who wouldn’t want that?
