Smartphone applications on the rise

PHOENIX, AZ. (April 15, 2009) Managing wireless mobility is getting more complicated as organizations deal with more users, devices and applications according to the latest AOTMP report, "A New Agenda for Wireless Mobility Management," sponsored by Telesoft. AOTMP surveyed nearly 150 telecom professionals in various industries and found that the distribution of smart phones has increased 6% over the past twelve months, along with a 50% increase in the quantity of unique applications deployed on each device.

"Organizations are facing a new set of challenges around wireless mobility management," said Thierry Zerbib, President of Telesoft Corp. "This report from AOTMP highlights the importance of having wireless management and policies in place to get full visibility into expenses, centralize device inventory and enforce wireless policies to drive down cost."

According to the report, the benefits realized from a wireless mobility management program include equipment cost savings, optimized services plans, system consolidation and user productivity gains. "Enterprises are focusing greater attention on wireless services as the variety and cost of service offerings grow," says Timothy Colwell, Vice President of Knowledge Operations for AOTMP. "Our most current research indicates that over the past twelve months, the distribution of cell phones has decreased by 9%, while the distribution of smart phones has increased by 6%. Coupled with a 50% increase in the quantity of unique applications deployed over the same period, enterprises are driven to establish wireless mobility management programs to meet their service and cost targets."
